ENGEL CONGRATULATES KOSOVO ON $49 MILLION MCC PROGRAM
WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement:
“Today, the Millennium Challenge Corporation Board voted to provide the Republic of Kosovo a Threshold program worth $49 million. I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Kosovo and my thanks to the MCC Board and staff for working together to produce this successful agreement.
“The innovative MCC program will help Kosovo move toward a more reliable energy sector and a more accountable government. By spurring investments in the energy sector, Kosovo’s people will have more dependable sources of energy, and through transparency, a government that better responds to them.
“I have worked hard to see that Kosovo will benefit from MCC programs ever since Kosovo’s independence in 2008 and am very happy that it is finally coming to fruition. I would like to thank, specifically, two people whose work helped make today happen, including Kosovo’s National Coordinator for Threshold Development, Petrit Selimi, who advanced the program quickly and successfully so that the MCC Board could act today, and Andrew Russell, the UNDP representative who helped generate the data needed for Kosovo to qualify for an MCC grant.”
