 Donald Trump po deklaron fitore pas mbylljes së hetimit nga Departamenti i Drejtësisë rreth komplotit të supozuar me Moskën. Megjithatë, Presidenti duhet të jetë i kujdesshëm të mos festojë tepër herët apo të krijojë vetëbesim të tepruar për zgjedhjet e vitit 2020. Ai përballet me sfida të mëdha në muajt e ardhshëm pavarësisht nga ndonjë lidhje e paligjshme ruse.

Sinjalet e para tregojnë që në vend të kësaj Trump ka vendosur të shkojë drejt hakmarrjes politike, retorikës ndarëse dhe të përpiqet t’i bëjë thirrje votuesve të tij besnikë. Kjo do të bënte të mundur që Demokratët ta paraqesin atë si një personalitet të paqëndrueshëm dhe destruktiv dhe jo një burrë shteti i vërtetë.

Edhe Demokratët duhet të jenë të kujdesshëm të mos e teprojnë me hetimin e Trump, sepse kjo mund t’i bindë votuesit që ata po përqendrojnë gjithë përpjekjet e tyre për të rrëzuar Trump dhe jo për të bërë ligje në ndihmë të qytetarëve. Vendimi i Mueller gjithashtu u ka bërë një nder Demokratëve. Përpjekjet e tyre për të hequr Presidentin do të ishin bllokuar në Senat nga shumica Republikane. Në vend të kësaj, Demokratët tani mund të fokusohen tek problemet që shqetësojnë shumicën e votuesve.

Zgjedhjet mes mandatit në Nëntor 2018 demonstruan që qytetarët janë më pak të interesuar për skandalet e Shtëpisë së Bardhë por si e bën punën presidenti, veçanërisht në lidhje me ekonominë dhe kujdesin shëndetësor. Administrata e Trump mund të ketë bërë një gabim serioz duke njoftuar që tani mbështet abrogimin e të gjithë Ligjit për Kujdesin Shëndetësor të Përballueshëm, të njohur si Obamacare. Kjo mund ta çojë betejën për kujdesin shëndetësor në Gjykatën Supreme. Zgjedhjet e fundit kanë treguar që njerëzit shqetësohen shumë për kujdesin e tyre shëndetësor, përfshirë sigurimet për njerëzit me sëmundje ekzistuese. Thjesht eliminimi i Obamacare pa pasur një diçka të besueshme për ta zëvendësuar do ta ulte më tej mbështetjen për Trump.

Donald Trump is claiming victory after the close of the Justice Department investigation on his alleged conspiracy with Moscow. However, the President must be careful not to celebrate too early or become over-confident for the 2020 elections. He faces daunting challenges over the coming months regardless of any illicitRussian connections.

The two-year longSpecial Counselprobe concluded that there was insufficient proof that Trump’s campaign actively conspired or cooperated with Russian intelligence services in the November 2016 elections. A summary of the Robert Mueller report delivered by Attorney General William Barrgifted Trump with political ammunition for his re-election campaignagainst his Democratic Party rivals.

However, Democratic control of the House of Representativesensures that Trump has not escaped all investigations. Democrat leaders are demanding the full release of the Russiareport and are focusing on Mueller’s conclusion the he could not exonerate the President oncharges of obstructing justice.In addition, numerous investigations are already underway in Congress and at state level in New York centered on Trump’s finances that could implicate his family business in corrupt deals with Moscow.

Mueller’s verdict is ultimately good news for America. It signals that the country’s President did not actively betray the country and cooperate with a foreign adversary to subvert US democracy.The opposite conclusion would have plunged the country into a constitutional, political, and security crisis.

Both Trump and the Democrats can benefit from the Justice Department ruling, but much depends on how intelligent they are in their political calculations. Trump now has an opportunity to remold his presidency from a narrow partisan position and broaden his public support. But to accomplish this he needs to show true leadership by ending his divisive rhetoric and reaching out to Congress to pass important legislation that the majority of Americans would support.

Early indications show that Trump has instead decided on political revenge, divisive rhetoric, and buckling down to appeal to his loyal voter base. This will enable Democrats to present him as a volatile and destructive figure rather than a genuine statesman.

Democrats also need to be careful not to overplay their hand in investigating Trump, as this could convince voters that they are focusing all their efforts on bringing down the President and not passing legislation to help citizens. The Mueller verdict has also delivered a favor to the Democrats. Their efforts to impeach the President would have been blocked in the Senate by the Republican majority. Instead, Democrats can now focus on issues that concern most voters.

The November 2018 midterms demonstrated that citizens are less interested in White House scandals than in job performance, especially regarding the economy and health care. The Trump administration may have made a serious mistake by announcing that it now supports invalidating the entire Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.This could push the struggle over health care to the Supreme Court.Recent elections have indicated that people care deeply about their health care, including insurance coverage of pre-existing conditions. Simply eliminating Obamacare without any credible replacement would further sink support for Trump.

Unlike all previous presidents, Trump’s approval remains low despite a growing economy, and according to economists that growth will slow down. In the 2018 midterms, Democrats successfully ran against Trump’s health care and tax policies, which they asserted primarily benefited the rich. They can also challenge Trump on his trade wars, which are hurting the farm-based states, and on failing to confront damaging climate change.

The most important conclusion of the Justice Department investigation into the 2016 elections was that Russian intelligence services directly interfered to subvert US democracy and affect the outcome. Democratic and Republican leaders remain united in their criticisms of Moscowand plan to intensify investigations of Russia’sinterventions. As a result, it is critically important that the Mueller report is fully disclosed, apart from classified intelligence data, and a more effective defense of the 2020 presidential elections is implemented.

One big unknown remains in the Russia scandal – whether Trump will take a softer or a harder line toward Moscow in the aftermath of the Mueller probe. He may either conclude that he can now make deals with President Putin without fear of domestic criticism or, on the contrary, he may feel free to take a tougher stance against America’s primary global adversary.
