Bastin Nellissery: Father C M Paul’s review on Mother Teresa book gets rave review
Bangalore, Apr. 15. A review by Father C. M. Paul, a Salesian of the Province of Kolkata, on the latest book ‘Mother Teresa: The Saint and Her Nation’, gets rave review in the Balkan countries. The book is written by University of Birmingham Prof. Gezim Alpion, probably the most authoritative Mother Teresa scholar.
Fr. Paul’s review first appeared in www.mattersindia.com on 5th April 2021.
A renowned US based reporter and former Director of Europe Division of Voice of America Frank Shkreli’s article based on C. M. Paul’s review of Prof. Alpion’s Bloomsbury book on Mother Teresa was published on 14 April in the Albanaian newsportal albspirit.com.
UK based Prof. Alpion’s 15th April Facebook post says, ”A number of news agencies, newspapers, magazines and portals in the Balkans (Albania, Montenegro, Kosova and North Macedonia) and diaspora (the US, the UK, Switzerland, Norway etc.) have published the article by Shkreli.”
”It is for the first time that any Mother Teresa scholar attempts to interpret Mother Teresa’s traumas, ordeals and achievements as a person and as a missionary by exploring hitherto ignored the influence of her ethnocultural and spiritual heritage,” writes Father Paul. He finds the latest book ‘Mother Teresa: The Saint and Her Nation’ a fascinating reading as it offers unknown information about the saint.
”As always, Alpion’s book is insightful and original, creative and extensively researched to reveal Mother Teresa in the manner of a blooming lotus with roots, and mud and all. Alpion has penned what will certainly become the standard guide to Mother Teresa’s heritage and her life,” opines Father Paul.
The 284-page book published by Bloomsbury India (2020) focuses on the interplay of individual and society, the intersection of biography and history, and the transformation of Mother Teresa’s troubles into public issues.
