Vucic Criticizes US diplomat Palmer
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic accused a senior State Department official of helping the opposition in an attempt to topple him.
Speaking live on the pro-regime TV Pink, Vucic said the most important part of a meeting of opposition officials and US diplomats at the embassy in Belgrade was when Deputy Assistant State Secretary Matthew Palmer asked how the US could help. The video was of an interview by then opposition Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) leader Sergej Trifunovic after the 2020 elections. Trifunovic said that he and other opposition leaders went to the US embassy in Belgrade to meet with Palmer and other diplomats.
Vucic said the most important thing said in the video was Trifunovic’s claim that Palmer asked the opposition leaders how they could help them. “To me the essence is not what the opposition said but what the US official is doing and what he is helping,” Vucic said.
“Who are you to help them. What do you have against the person the opposition is against. You don’t like Vucic. I am proud of that. You have something against an independent Serbia,” Vucic said.
