Brussels has reservations about the regional “Open Balkans” initiative
Brussels has reservations about the regional “Open Balkans” initiative, according to Bulgarian media.
They note that Brussels has a negative view of the “Min Schengen” or “Open Balkans” initiative of the leaders of the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia and Albania and considers it to undermine the European integration of the region.
The European Commission considers the initiative of Edi Rama, Aleksandar Vučić and Zoran Zaev to be completely incompatible with the regional development initiative with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo, diplomatic sources in Brussels said.
The European Commission considers that this initiative should not be supported because it reduces the EU’s strategic partnership with the Balkans and opens the way for the US as the only strategic partner with the Balkan countries. The EU will take steps to minimise the initiative, diplomatic sources said, Bulgarian media reported./ibna
