MARYAM RAJAVI IN A GATHERING OF MEMBERS OF COUNCIL OF EUROPE’S VARIOUS GROUPS: SUPPORT IRAN UPRISING

Maryam Rajavi in a gathering of members of Council of Europe’s various groups: Support Iran Uprising
After participating and addressing official meetings EPP, UEL and ALDE groups at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Maryam Rajavi addressed a gathering of representatives from various political groups in the Council of Europe and prominent European personalities entitled, “Freedom of Prisoners of Uprising.” Maryam Rajavi said in her remarks:

Distinguished representatives,
Good evening,
Today, in meetings with various political groups of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, I explained about the current special circumstances in Iran.

I tried to draw the attention of the elected representatives of Europe to a major development in Iran, a nationwide uprising, which heralds the prospect of an Iran without the religious dictatorship.

Before anything else, I urged the Council of Europe to help in the efforts to secure the release of those arrested in the recent uprising.

I urge you to be the voice of these prisoners.
Ask the Council of Europe’s board of directors to condemn arbitrary executions and murder of protesters and demand their immediate release.

The protests that erupted in 142 Iranian cities were not blind or aimless but called for the overthrow of the religious dictatorship and, to a large extent, were organized.

Although the uprising faced a brutal, bloody crackdown including the arrests of thousands,
but the regime and the people, both know that the protests are going to resume because there is a very serious confrontation between the two sides.

This is where Europe must stand: beside the people of Iran and in support of their struggle for freedom and democracy.

The clerical regime does not enjoy any legitimacy among the people of Iran and particularly the youth see it as a regime which has occupied their country.
The regime is fundamentally unstable.

There is no rule of law and no legal security in Iran.
People’s right to ownership is not respected and worst of all, human rights are totally ignored.
In addition, the Iranian regime is the number one cause of wars and instability in the Middle East.

The regime needs Europe very much particularly for commercial trade.
But the partner to these deals is the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Their revenues are spent on the suppression of the Iranian people and on wars in Syria and Yemen.
Some believed that if the regime’s revenues increased it would help recover the bankrupt economy.

Since the start of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the world’s six major powers, the regime’s oil revenues have doubled.
At least 100 billion dollars of the frozen assets have been unblocked and handed to the regime.

In the same period, however, Iran’s economy has taken a downturn and people have become extremely poor.
