Interfaith conference opens today, two Nobel laureates arrive in Kosovo

Prishtina, 31 May 2016 – One of the biggest meetings of interfaith dialogue in Europe begins today in Prishtina. Interfaith conference opens at 17:00, in Swiss Diamond Hotel. More than 300 participants from 50 states, including those that have not recognized Kosovo’s independence, will participate in this conference. They will gather for three days to discuss the role of woman in countering extremism. Nobel laureates, Shirin Ebadi (Iran) and Tawakkol Karman (Yemen), arrived in Prishtina.

For the first time, Prishtina will host this major meeting titled Interfaith Kosovo. Many participants have confirmed their participation in this conference, including religious leaders from Argentina, Yemen, America, Cuba, Thailand, Nigeria and more than 45 other countries from around the world.

The conference is titled “Role of Woman in Promoting Interfaith Dialogue and Countering Extremism” and has been organized by several organizations promoting dialogue, as International Institute for Interfaith Dialogue, Tony Blair Faith Foundation, whereas Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Assembly of Kosovo, Embassy of the United States, Canadian Embassy, Norwegian Embassy and United Nations support this event.  Participants will participate in various panels intended for topics related to the family, role of woman, and hate speech in social networks. This year, the conference Interfaith Kosovo will award the Kosovo Price for Interfaith Dialogue to the Mayor of London Sadik Khan and Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, founder of Community of Sant’Egidio.
