The 10 candidacies for the “Lumo Skëndo” award for the year 2023 are announced, this award goes to the best work in Albanian essays and journalism of a year

The National Book and Reading Center announced the nominations for the “Lumo Skëndo” award for 2023. There are ten candidacies competing for the prize awarded by the National Book and Reading Center. The “Lumo Skëndo” award goes to the best work in Albanian essays and journalism of a year. The works selected by the jury that was previously set up at the National Book and Reading Center are: “Fan Noli-Apostulli” by Ilir Ikonomi, “The outstanding, unknown Frashëri” by Thomas Frashëri; “Battle for the 20 percent” by Ardit Bido; “A bridge of words between us and the other” by Namir Lapardhaja; “The Discovery of Eros in Antiquity” by Artan Fuga; “Man as another” by Natasha Lako; “My meetings with…” by Blendi Fevziu; “I am Kosovo” by Migjen Kelmendi, “Selected journalism” by Erion Kristo and “Evidence and memory” by Astrit Lulushi. The jury of the third edition of the “Lumo Skëndo” prize awarded by the National Book and Reading Center consists of the publisher Arlinda Dudaj, Uran Butka, researcher of the work of Mid’hat Frashër, pedagogue Belina Budini, researcher and pedagogue Bledar Kurti, as well as the researcher Ardit Gjinali. The “Lumo Skëndo” award for the best work published in journalism and essays during 2023 is expected to be awarded in the last days of March. A year ago, the winner of the “Lumo Skëndo” award was the writer Ben Blushi with his book “41 Secrets”. The author was evaluated by the jury at the National Council for the best work in the field of publishing and essay writing for the year 2022.

The “Lumo Skëndo” award was brought back by the National Book and Reading Center and focuses on bringing Mid’hat Frashëri back to attention. But also to have an evaluation for the best journalistic or research work. On the 72nd anniversary of the death of one of the intellectuals of Albanian history, the National Book and Reading Center presented in October 2021 the return of the “Lumo Skëndo” award. The director of the KKLL, Alda Bardhyli, upon returning the award, expressed her respect for the figure of Mid’hat Frashër and his contribution to Albanian literature, historical and Albanian studies. In the first edition, members of the jury said that the return of the “Lumo Skëndo” award from the KKLL is good news for the authors who will be evaluated in the genres of journalism, essays and studies. In the first edition, the winner of the “Lumo Skëndo” award was Lea Ypi with her book “Free”. Mid’hat Frashëri (known by the pen name Lumo Skëndo; March 25, 1880- October 3, 1949) was an Albanian diplomat, writer and politician. In the world of letters, he has his contribution as a publicist, writer, translator and Albanian scholar. The National Bibliophilia Award “Lumo Skëndo” was awarded for the first time in 2006.
