Ermonela Jaho: Thank you Greek National Opera!
After seven months of silence and waiting, the curtain was up again, the audience took their seats in the stalls and boxes and maestro Lukas Karytinos gave the signal for the restart of the Greek National Opera with Puccini’s Madama Butterfly yesterday night at the Stavros Niarchos Hall.
Internationally acclaimed soprano Ermonela Jaho gave a heartbreaking performance as Butterfly with Dimitris Paksoglou in the role of Pinkerton. Alongside them, established and up-and-coming soloists, such as Chrysanthi Spitadi, Nikos Kotenidis etc.
Despite the fact that the Hall was at 30% capacity (in line with the protective measures against COVID-19), the audience’s applause was warm and extended.
A great start.
Madama Butterfly’s second performance is set for Friday 16 October at 20.00.
